LOOSE LEAF YERBA MATE

WARM BREW

Traditional Or French Press Brewing Method — It’s Still Awesome!

TRADITIONAL METHOD VIDEO

Mate (pronounced mah-teh) is a drink made by steeping dried leaves from the Yerba Mate plant in hot water. It was the Guaraní Indians of South America who first discovered the rejuvenating qualities of Yerba Mate and now it’s enjoyed in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, parts of Brazil, Chile, eastern Bolivia, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. It tastes somewhat like green tea, with hints of tobacco and oak. For the iced version of this recipe, check it out here >

FRENCH PRESS METHOD
  • Place one heaping teaspoon of leaves into your French Press.  Add 8 ounces of room temperature water to the leaves.  This allows the Mate to open for maximum flavor.
  • Heat a kettle of water but remove from the element just before the water boils.  Pour water into press.
  • Let steep for 3 minutes (medium strong) to 5 minutes (very strong).
  • Depress plunger (slowly & evenly).
  • Pour your first tasty cup of Thirsty Leaf.
